Quick answer: buy Pepe coin in the Netherlands

If you want to buy Pepe coin in the Netherlands, the short version is: open an account on a platform with an AFM or passported MiCA licence, top up euro with iDEAL, and buy PEPE on its euro market. Bitvavo and Finst are the two Dutch-licensed apps we confirmed with PEPE on 13 October 2026; Bitpanda and Kraken are the main EU alternatives. The price widget above shows PEPE in euro live, along with what €50, €100 or €500 gets you.

The Netherlands is an easy place to buy PEPE, but it has two quirks you won’t find in most countries. First, it moved to full MiCA licensing a whole year earlier than the rest of the EU. Second, Dutch tax does not care about your trading profit at all: it taxes an assumed return on what you own. Both are covered below, along with the withdrawal-fee detail that surprises a lot of new Bitvavo users.

Crypto has been regulated here for a while. From 2020, crypto firms had to register with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) under the Dutch anti-money-laundering law, the Wwft. That was a registration, not a full licence, and it covered fraud and AML checks rather than investor protection.

MiCA replaced that system. The AFM (Autoriteit Financiële Markten) became the authority for crypto-asset service providers and started accepting applications on 22 April 2024. Where most EU countries allowed old firms up to 18 months to keep operating, the Netherlands cut the transition to six months. It ended on 30 June 2025, so since 1 July 2025 every crypto platform serving Dutch customers has needed a MiCA licence, a full year before the EU-wide deadline of 1 July 2026.

The result is a crowded, well-licensed market. The ESMA register listed 29 Dutch-based providers on 13 October 2026, from Bitvavo (authorised 26 June 2025) and Finst (24 July 2025) to BLOX (30 September 2025), BTC Direct, Bitonic, Coinmerce and Amdax. Buying and holding PEPE is legal; the regulator’s job is to make sure the platform you use is authorised and treats your money properly. You can check any name yourself in the ESMA MiCA register.

Where to buy PEPE: Bitvavo, Finst, Bitpanda and Kraken

We checked each venue against its own public data on 13 October 2026. Five names came up, but only four had PEPE we could confirm as buyable.

Bitvavo

Amsterdam-based Bitvavo is the default answer for many Dutch buyers, and it was early to the frog: it listed PEPE on 23 May 2023, only weeks after the token launched. Its API shows a live PEPE-EUR market with a minimum order of €5 and the usual order types, including limit and stop-loss. Trading fees on euro markets start at 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker for 30-day volume under €100,000. Euro deposits by iDEAL/Wero, SEPA, Bancontact and EPS are free, while cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay cost 1% (from August 2026).

The catch is on the way out. Bitvavo withdraws PEPE only on Ethereum, with a fee of 270,000 PEPE and a minimum withdrawal of 280,000 PEPE. On a €20 position that fee is a big slice; on a larger one it hardly matters. Our full Bitvavo review covers the proof-of-reserves reports and its €100,000 account guarantee.

Finst

Finst is a younger Dutch app with an AFM licence from July 2025. Its PEPE page lists PEPE against both EUR and USDC with a 0.15% fee, and names iDEAL-Wero, Bancontact and SEPA as payment methods. That makes it one of the few places where we could confirm the iDEAL route on the PEPE page itself rather than on a general help article.

Bitpanda, Kraken and BLOX

Bitpanda, licensed in Austria and Germany and passported to the Netherlands, quotes PEPE in euro as a broker with a premium of 0% to 2.49% built into the price; see our Bitpanda review. Kraken runs a PEPE/EUR order book under its Irish MiCA licence. BLOX has a PEPE price page with “Pepe kopen” links, but we could not confirm that PEPE is buyable in the app, so check before you deposit. For the global list of venues, see our PEPE exchange comparison.

How to buy Pepe coin with iDEAL

iDEAL is the Netherlands’ favourite way to pay online, with more than 1.5 billion transactions in 2025. It is in the middle of a rebrand: from 2026 it becomes iDEAL | Wero, all Dutch banks are due to be on Wero by October 2026, and the migration runs until 31 December 2027. For crypto buyers nothing really changes; you still choose iDEAL (or iDEAL | Wero) in the deposit menu and confirm in your banking app.

You don’t pay for PEPE with iDEAL directly. You use it to fund a euro balance, then buy PEPE with that balance. The five steps below work on Bitvavo and Finst, and the general flow is the same on other platforms. Our beginner’s guide to buying PEPE has more on order types and fees.

  1. Choose a licensed platform

Bitvavo or Finst if you want a Dutch app; Bitpanda or Kraken if you already have an account there.

  2. Verify with your ID

MiCA providers must run KYC. Expect to upload a passport or ID card and confirm your address.

  3. Deposit euro with iDEAL

Pick iDEAL (iDEAL | Wero) in the deposit screen and approve it in your banking app. SEPA works too, it is just slower.

  4. Buy PEPE on the euro market

Use a market order for speed or a limit order to name your price. Check that the asset is the Ethereum PEPE token.

  5. Withdraw or hold

If you move PEPE to your own wallet, compare the withdrawal fee with the size of your position first.

Crypto tax in the Netherlands: how Box 3 treats PEPE

Here is the part that confuses visitors from other countries. In the Netherlands, selling PEPE at a profit does not trigger a capital gains tax. Instead, crypto counts as a Box 3 asset, and the Belastingdienst taxes an assumed (deemed) return on the value of what you held on 1 January, valued at the platform rate on that date.

Tax-free allowance 2026
€59,357 per person
Deemed return on crypto
6.00% (overige bezittingen)
Box 3 rate
36%
Valuation date
1 January
Exchange reporting
DAC8, from 1 Jan 2026
Actual-return reform
Expected around 1 Jan 2028

A simplified example: say your only Box 3 asset on 1 January 2026 is €80,000 of crypto, you have no debts and no fiscal partner. The amount above the allowance is €20,643. Box 3 assumes a 6% return on that, which is €1,238.58, and taxes it at 36%, giving roughly €446. Real returns combine all your savings and investments, so treat this as an illustration of the mechanics, not your bill.

Two newer details matter for PEPE holders. Since the 2025 tax-year return there has been a separate “Cryptobezittingen” checkbox, and you may report your actual return (tegenbewijs) if it was lower than the deemed one, which in a bad meme-coin year it often is. And from 1 January 2026 crypto providers report customer data to the Belastingdienst under the EU’s DAC8 rules, so platform holdings are visible to the tax office. The 2026 figures come from Dutch tax publishers rather than a government page we could fetch, so confirm them in the official return. This is not tax advice.

CEX.IO and Dutch users

CEX.IO is a global exchange running since 2013 and the destination of the buttons on this site, but it is closed to new customers in the EU and EEA, the Netherlands included. Existing accounts are limited to withdrawals and account management. Its EU entity, CEX.IO Europe, S.L. in Madrid, has a MiCA application pending with Spain’s CNMV and was not in the ESMA register on 13 October 2026. Outside the EU it trades PEPE only against USD, USDT and USDC; there is no euro pair.

Moving abroad or living outside the EU?CEX.IO is closed to new EU sign-ups. Check availability in your country before signing up.

Local tips for Dutch PEPE buyers

Mind the 270,000 PEPE. If you plan to move PEPE off Bitvavo, the fixed withdrawal fee means it pays to withdraw once, in bulk, rather than in small chunks. Check the current fee in the app before you start, because these fees change.

Screenshot 1 January. Because Box 3 values your holdings on a single day, save your platform statement or a screenshot of your PEPE balance and its euro value at the start of each year. If you self-custody, note the rate you used.

Double-check the token. Many “Pepe” tokens float around. The real one is the Ethereum ERC-20 contract ending in 2311933; our guides to PEPE copycats and PEPE’s risks explain how to spot the fakes.

Our take

The Netherlands is one of the simplest places in Europe to buy PEPE: two Dutch-licensed apps with confirmed PEPE markets, free iDEAL deposits and a regulator that finished the MiCA switch early. The trade-offs are Bitvavo’s chunky PEPE withdrawal fee and a tax system that charges you on a deemed return even in a year when your frog lost money, unless you use the actual-return route. Chainalysis did not rank the Netherlands in its 2025 top 20.

Comparing borders? See buying PEPE in Germany, where long-held coins can be tax-free, or buying PEPE in Spain and its savings-income tax bands. The country hub lists all twelve.

Questions people ask

Where can I buy Pepe coin in the Netherlands?+

On an AFM-licensed or MiCA-passported platform. Bitvavo runs a PEPE-EUR order book with a €5 minimum, Finst sells PEPE in EUR and USDC, and Bitpanda and Kraken also offer PEPE against the euro. All four appeared in or were checked against the ESMA register on 13 Oct 2026.

Can I buy Pepe coin with iDEAL?+

Yes, indirectly. You top up your euro balance with iDEAL, now being rebranded as iDEAL | Wero, and then buy PEPE with that balance. Finst lists iDEAL-Wero as a payment method on its PEPE page, and Bitvavo lists iDEAL/Wero deposits as free.

How is PEPE taxed in the Netherlands?+

Through Box 3, not as a capital gain. You report the value of your crypto on 1 January. For 2026 the tax-free allowance is €59,357 per person, crypto is assumed to earn 6% a year, and that deemed return is taxed at 36%. You may instead report your actual return if it was lower.

Is Bitvavo safe for buying PEPE?+

Bitvavo holds an AFM MiCA licence from 26 June 2025, publishes quarterly proof-of-reserves attestations and offers an account guarantee up to €100,000 for unauthorised access, with conditions. Like any exchange it carries counterparty risk, so large amounts are often moved to a self-custody wallet.

Can Dutch residents use CEX.IO?+

Not as new customers. CEX.IO does not onboard new EU or EEA users, and existing accounts are limited to withdrawals and account management. Its MiCA application with Spain’s CNMV was still pending on 13 Oct 2026.

Pick a licensed Dutch platform, mind the withdrawal fee and remember that the Belastingdienst only cares what your PEPE was worth on 1 January.
