Latest Pepe coin news
The biggest Pepe coin news of autumn 2026 comes from the SEC’s filing system, not from crypto Twitter. On 2 October 2026 Canary Capital filed the first amendment to its spot PEPE ETF registration, six months after the original S-1 of 8 April 2026. As of 13 October 2026 the fund is not effective and not trading, there is no ticker yet and the sponsor fee is blank. An amendment means the process is alive. It does not mean approval is close.
Price-wise, PEPE has spent 2026 rebuilding. Binance monthly candles show a low of about $0.0000022 in June and July, and by 13 October CoinGecko had PEPE near $0.00000405, a market cap of roughly $1.7 billion and rank #61. That still leaves it about 85% below the December 2024 peak. The live card next to this intro shows today’s numbers, and our live PEPE price page has the chart.
We update this page when something verifiable happens. We do not repost rumours, influencer calls or presale “news” for PEPE-themed clones. Every entry below links to a primary source or a named outlet in the source list.
PEPE news timeline: 2024 to 2026
PEPE’s first year was eventful too: it was deployed on 14 April 2023, listed on Binance on 5 May 2023, survived a multisig scare in August and burned 6.9 trillion tokens in October. That chapter lives on our PEPE price history page. Here are the headlines since 2024.
Q1 meme rally
PEPE climbs to a monthly high of about $0.0000108 on Binance as meme coins rally with Bitcoin.
Robinhood and Coinbase list PEPE
Robinhood lists PEPE and Coinbase adds it to its roadmap with the goal of listing the same day. PEPE sets a new high at the time.
Upbit opens a KRW market
South Korea’s largest exchange lists PEPE against the won, on the Ethereum network only.
All-time high
PEPE peaks at $0.00002803 per CoinGecko, a market cap of about $11.8 billion, briefly passing Uniswap and Litecoin.
SEC staff statement on meme coins
SEC staff say typical meme coins are not securities. The guidance is non-binding and does not name PEPE.
Market-wide crash
A crypto-wide liquidation event drives PEPE to a $0.00000279 wick on Binance.
Official website hijacked
Blockaid detects Inferno Drainer code on the official Pepe site. Binance and KuCoin warn users.
Canary files a spot PEPE ETF
Canary Capital files an S-1 with the SEC. Proposed venue: Cboe BZX. Custodian: BitGo.
The 2026 low
PEPE bottoms around $0.0000022–0.0000023 on Binance monthly candles.
ETF amendment filed
Canary files Pre-Effective Amendment No. 1. The fund is still not effective or trading as of 13 Oct 2026.
Two patterns stand out. First, access news drove the biggest gains: the November 2024 listings on Robinhood, Coinbase and Upbit were followed by the all-time high less than four weeks later. Second, the worst drops were market-wide, not PEPE-specific. The October 2025 crash hit every meme coin, and PEPE was reported as the worst performer among the top meme coins of 2025, down about 72.5% for the year by early November.
Whale headlines are harder to verify. In January 2026, secondary aggregators reported that Santiment saw PEPE whale transactions of $100,000 or more jump by about 620% in a week. We could not confirm that against Santiment directly, so treat it as low-confidence.
Why is Pepe coin going up or down?
Most days, PEPE is not moving because of PEPE. It is a high-beta meme asset, so it tends to amplify whatever Bitcoin and the wider market are doing. The table sorts the usual causes, what they look like on the chart, and where to confirm them. It is a framework, not a guarantee: several causes often hit at once.
| Cause | Typical effect | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin moves first | PEPE usually follows, often harder | Check BTC’s 24h change |
| Exchange listing | Sharp spike on volume | Official exchange blog |
| ETF filing news | Sentiment boost, size varies | SEC EDGAR |
| Large wallet to exchange | Selling pressure | Etherscan transfers |
| Security incident | Fear-driven dip | Security firm alerts |
When PEPE is going down and Bitcoin is flat, look for a coin-specific story: a big transfer from an unlabelled wallet, an exchange outage or a security alert. The August 2023 multisig transfer of about 16 trillion PEPE is the classic example. The Canary S-1/A says the price fell roughly 16% within 24 hours. When PEPE is going up much faster than Bitcoin on rising volume, the trigger is usually a listing, a product launch or a rotation into meme coins.
Leverage adds its own twist. PEPE has traded as a perpetual futures contract since BitMEX listed PEPEUSD and PEPEUSDT perps on 3 May 2023, before it even reached Binance spot. When prices drop fast, leveraged long positions are force-closed, which pushes the price lower still. That cascade explains why the 10 October 2025 crash produced a wick to $0.00000279 rather than a gentle slide. It also explains sudden squeezes upward when too many traders bet against the frog at once.
Finally, remember where the supply sits. Etherscan shows the top 100 wallets holding 76.73% of PEPE on 13 October 2026, and most of the largest are exchange custody wallets, with four labelled Binance wallets alone holding about 17.9%. A big transfer between two exchange wallets looks dramatic on a whale-alert bot but often means nothing. A big transfer from an unlabelled wallet into an exchange deserves a closer look.

Check any PEPE move in four steps
You do not need a paid terminal to answer “what is happening with PEPE today”. This routine takes about five minutes.
Compare with Bitcoin
If BTC is down 3% and PEPE is down 8%, that is normal beta, not PEPE news.
Check volume
A price move on thin volume often reverses. Rising volume on CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap means real participation.
Look at the chain
Open the PEPE contract on Etherscan and sort transfers by size. Large deposits to exchange wallets hint at selling.
Find the primary source
Exchange blogs, SEC EDGAR or a named security firm. If the only source is an anonymous post, wait.
PEPE burn news: what really happened
“Pepe coin burn news” is a popular search, so here is the short version. The only major burn was on 24 October 2023, when the remaining team burned about 6.9 trillion PEPE, roughly 1.6% of supply, from the multisig wallet. FXStreet reported a price jump of about 31% around the event. Etherscan still shows about 6.92T PEPE at the dead address as of 13 October 2026. Separately, about 100 billion tokens have been destroyed through the contract’s public burn function, by holders we cannot identify.
There is no automatic burn, no tax that feeds a burn and no burn schedule. Some data sites mention a “periodic burn mechanism”, but the contract code on Etherscan does not support that claim. So “burn rate today” trackers for PEPE have nothing to track. Our PEPE tokenomics page breaks down the supply, and the 1-cent math page shows why burns cannot change the big picture.

PEPE vs Pepecoin headlines
People searching “pepecoin news” often land on stories about a different asset. On 11 February 2026, Kraken opened trading for Pepecoin (PEP), a separate proof-of-work blockchain. That was not a PEPE listing. Stories about BasedAI “Brains” refer to yet another project, the 2016 PepeCoin. Before you act on a headline, check the ticker and the chain. Our explainer on PEPE vs Pepecoin sorts the three frogs, and the guide to Pepe copycat tokens covers the presales that borrow PEPE’s name in paid articles.
Where to follow PEPE news
The best PEPE news sources are boring ones. They publish facts first and opinions never. Bookmark these, and treat social media as a tip line rather than a source.
Exchange announcement pages matter because listings, delistings and paused withdrawals show up there first. We found no PEPE delisting by a major exchange as of 13 October 2026. If you are choosing where to trade, our PEPE exchange comparison and how to buy PEPE guide are the next stops. For context on the official website, read pepe.vip’s own disclaimer: it calls PEPE a meme coin with no intrinsic value, which is the most honest headline of all. You can check it on pepe.vip, carefully and without connecting a wallet.
Questions people ask
What is the latest Pepe coin news?+
The biggest recent item is the Canary PEPE ETF. Canary Capital filed an S-1 on 8 April 2026 and an amended S-1/A on 2 October 2026. As of 13 October 2026 the fund was not effective and not trading.
Why is Pepe coin going up today?+
Usually because the whole crypto market is rising, a large exchange or product announcement hit, or traders are piling into meme coins. Check Bitcoin’s move and PEPE’s trading volume first. If PEPE rises much more than Bitcoin on high volume, look for a specific headline.
Why is Pepe coin going down?+
Most PEPE drops follow a falling Bitcoin, liquidations in leveraged markets or large transfers into exchanges. Single-coin crashes have also come from incidents such as the August 2023 multisig transfer, which knocked roughly 16% off the price within a day.
Is there any PEPE burn news?+
The only large PEPE burn was about 6.9 trillion tokens on 24 October 2023. The contract has no automatic burn mechanism, so there is no ongoing burn rate to track. Claims of a regular burn schedule are not supported by the contract code.
Was the PEPE website hacked?+
Yes. On 4 December 2025 security firm Blockaid flagged Inferno Drainer code on the official Pepe website front end, and Binance and KuCoin warned users. The token contract itself was not affected, but users were told not to connect wallets to the site.
Has any major exchange delisted PEPE?+
We found no delisting of PEPE by a major exchange as of 13 October 2026. That is based on our search, not proof that none exists, so check your exchange’s own announcements.
