Pepe coin on Robinhood: the verdict in short
Robinhood supports PEPE for US customers, and it does so with fewer strings than you might expect. Its coin availability table, checked on 13 October 2026, lists PEPE as tradable with no New York footnote, unlike several newer meme coins that are blocked there. Orders through the default routing carry no commission, and you can move PEPE in or out on Ethereum from any US state.
We score Robinhood 7.4 out of 10, just behind Coinbase. The “no commission” headline is real but incomplete: Robinhood earns from the spread and from market-maker rebates, so you pay a cost you cannot see as a separate line. Its regulatory record includes a $30 million New York penalty in 2022. And it labels the token “Pepecoin (PEPE)”, which invites confusion with a different project.
Robinhood mostly matters to US buyers; our guide to buying PEPE in the USA compares it with Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini and Binance.US and explains how the IRS taxes gains.
Who runs Robinhood, and where it is licensed
Crypto trading in the US runs through Robinhood Crypto, LLC, a subsidiary of Robinhood Markets, Inc., which is listed on Nasdaq as HOOD. In New York, Robinhood Crypto announced a BitLicense and a state money transmitter licence in January 2019 and started crypto trading there in May 2019. An older Georgia licence certificate on Robinhood’s own site shows NMLS ID 1702840; that record dates from 2018 and we could not confirm the current status, nor the full list of state licences or the FinCEN registration. NMLS Consumer Access is the place to check your state.
The regulatory record is not spotless. In August 2022 the New York Department of Financial Services fined Robinhood Crypto $30 million over failings in its anti-money-laundering and cybersecurity programmes. We confirmed the settlement but not the exact press-release URL, so we link to the regulator’s homepage below.
In Europe, Robinhood Europe UAB was authorised under MiCA by the Bank of Lithuania on 29 May 2025 and passports to most EEA states. A PEPE page exists on Robinhood’s EU site, but we could not confirm that PEPE is tradable in every EU country. European buyers have well-documented options in our Bitvavo and Bitpanda reviews.
How we scored Robinhood for PEPE buyers
Our six criteria and weights are the same on every review: licensing 20%, PEPE market 15%, costs 25%, withdrawals 15%, security 15% and app 10%.
| Criterion | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing (20%) | 8.0 | BitLicense, MiCA via Lithuania; state list unverified |
| PEPE market (15%) | 8.0 | PEPE/USD incl. New York; “Pepecoin” label |
| Costs (25%) | 7.0 | No commission, but spread-based |
| Withdrawals (15%) | 8.0 | $0 Robinhood fee, all US states |
| Security (15%) | 6.0 | NYDFS $30M penalty in 2022 |
| App (10%) | 7.5 | iOS 4.3 from 4.9M ratings |
| Weighted total | 7.4 | Out of 10 |
Licensing scores 8: a BitLicense and a MiCA licence are strong, but the current state list and NMLS status are unverified. The PEPE market scores 8 thanks to New York access, minus points for the “Pepecoin” label. Costs earn 7: no commission is genuinely useful for small buys, but the spread is opaque, and exchange routing starts at a steep 0.95% taker. Withdrawals get 8, the best in our US pair, because Robinhood adds no fee on top of gas and transfers work in every state. Security falls to 6 because of the 2022 NYDFS penalty for AML and cybersecurity failures. The app gets 7.5: a 4.3 rating from 4,878,684 US iOS reviews is good, but lower than Coinbase’s 4.7.
Robinhood fees for PEPE
Robinhood’s crypto fee schedule (document dated 22 June 2026) describes two ways to route an order. Market maker routing, the app default, says “No commissions”. Robinhood receives volume rebates from the market makers, which means your cost is built into the price you get. Exchange routing sends the order to an exchange and charges a visible maker-taker fee that falls with 30-day volume.
| Item | Fee | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Market maker routing (default) | No commission | Cost is in the spread |
| Exchange routing, $0–10K / 30 days | 0.50% / 0.95% | Maker / taker |
| Exchange routing, $25M+ / 30 days | 0.00% / 0.03% | Maker / taker, top tier |
| PEPE transfer out | $0 + network fee | Fee deducted from PEPE |
| Robinhood Connect (bank or debit) | 0.0–1.5% | Third-party on-ramp |
For a $100 PEPE buy, default routing shows no fee, but the price may sit slightly above the market mid-price. Exchange routing on the same order would cost 95 cents as a taker. Neither number is unusual for US retail apps, but they are higher than an order-book exchange like Bitvavo charges in Europe. We could not verify the minimum PEPE purchase or deposit fees from Robinhood’s own pages. To see what a spread does to a meme-coin position, try our PEPE calculator.
Outside the US and the EU?CEX.IO says PEPE is not available to US-based users and is closed to new EU sign-ups. Check your country before signing up.

You need a verified Robinhood account; identity verification is also required before crypto transfers.
Open and verify your account
Download the Robinhood app, sign up and complete identity verification.
Fund it in US dollars
Link a bank account and add cash. Check the app for current limits and timing.
Search for “Pepecoin (PEPE)”
Robinhood uses this label for the Ethereum meme token PEPE. Confirm the ticker is PEPE.
Pick routing and order type
Default routing has no commission. Exchange routing shows a fee but can give more price transparency.
Hold or transfer
Keep PEPE in Robinhood or send it to your own Ethereum wallet; the network fee is deducted in PEPE.
The naming matters. Robinhood’s “Pepecoin” is PEPE, not Pepecoin (PEP), the separate proof-of-work coin; our PEPE vs Pepecoin explainer breaks it down. For a general route, see how to buy PEPE.
Withdrawing PEPE from Robinhood: network and fee
Robinhood supports PEPE as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. Incoming transfers need 30 confirmations, which Robinhood puts at about six minutes. Robinhood charges $0 for crypto transfers; you pay only the Ethereum network fee. That fee is paid in ETH behind the scenes but deducted from your PEPE balance, so you do not need to hold ETH. Transfers are available in all US states plus DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Robinhood security record
The main verified mark on Robinhood’s crypto record is the August 2022 NYDFS settlement: $30 million for shortcomings in Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money-laundering compliance and in cybersecurity. It was a compliance failure rather than a theft of customer coins, but it was serious enough that a strict regulator acted. We did not re-verify other past incidents for this review, and we found no published proof of reserves or crypto insurance details, so treat those as unverified. Like any custodial app, Robinhood holds your keys while PEPE stays on the platform. Our PEPE safety guide covers exchange risk alongside market risk.

👀 What to watch
- Spread-based pricing you cannot see as a fee
- Exchange routing starts at 0.95% taker under $10K

- “Pepecoin” label can be confused with Pepecoin (PEP)
- PEPE tradability in the EU not confirmed
Robinhood alternatives and the CEX.IO comparison
Coinbase is the obvious comparison: a deep PEPE-USD order book with a $1 minimum and limit orders on Advanced, but higher visible fees and a 2025 data breach. Kraken, Gemini and Binance.US also list PEPE against the dollar. Our PEPE exchange comparison shows them side by side.
CEX.IO, which this site’s buy buttons link to, is not an option for Americans who want PEPE: its buy-PEPE page says PEPE is “not available for U.S.-based users”, and its US terms list New York as a restricted location. CEX.IO Corp. is NMLS-registered (#1804170) and lists licences in 38 states plus DC, so it serves other assets in many states. It has also closed new sign-ups in the EU and EEA under MiCA.
