Quick answer: how to buy Pepe coin in Spain

To buy Pepe coin in Spain, use a platform authorised under MiCA, fund it with euro by SEPA transfer or card, and buy on a PEPE/EUR market. The Spanish option is Bit2Me, which got its CNMV licence on 31 October 2025 and runs a PEPE/EUR market. Bitvavo, Kraken and Bitpanda offer PEPE in euro under licences from other EU countries that are valid in Spain. The widget above converts the live Pepe coin price into euro, so you can see what €50 or €500 buys before you start.

Spain’s story has three twists worth knowing. The country’s crypto rules changed hands from the Banco de España to the CNMV. Bizum, the payment app almost everyone uses, does not appear to be a way into crypto exchanges. And CEX.IO, whose EU business is actually registered in Madrid, cannot take new Spanish customers. More on each below.

Before MiCA, Spain’s crypto firms registered with the Banco de España in an anti-money-laundering registry of virtual-currency exchange and custodial-wallet providers. That registry stopped accepting new entries when MiCA began on 30 December 2024 and now only serves to check firms that were already on it.

Under MiCA the CNMV (Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores) licenses crypto-asset service providers. In 2023 Spain had announced a short 12-month transition, but it ended up using the full 18 months, so firms registered with the Banco de España before 30 December 2024 could carry on until 1 July 2026. Since then, only authorised providers may serve Spanish clients.

Spain’s list of licensed names looks unusually traditional. The ESMA register showed 15 Spanish-based providers on 13 October 2026, and next to Bit2Me (legally Bitcoinforme S.L.), Criptan and Prosegur Crypto you’ll find BBVA, CaixaBank, Openbank, Renta 4, Kutxabank and Cecabank. Big Spanish banks moving into crypto custody and trading is a distinctly local trend. Buying and holding PEPE is legal; the question is only which licensed door you walk through.

Where to buy PEPE in Spain: Bit2Me, Bitvavo, Kraken and more

We checked each venue’s public market data and the ESMA register on 13 October 2026. Here is what holds up.

Bit2Me is the home-grown pick. It is CNMV-authorised as a MiCA provider since 31 October 2025, and its own market configuration lists a PEPE/EUR market. Third-party guides say SEPA deposits are free and EU cards cost 1.99%, but treat those figures as indicative and check the fee screen. Being Spanish also means Bit2Me reports to the AEAT itself, which simplifies your paperwork.

Bitvavo brings its Dutch AFM licence to Spain and runs a PEPE-EUR order book with a €5 minimum and fees from 0.15% maker and 0.25% taker; withdrawing PEPE costs 270,000 PEPE on Ethereum. Our Bitvavo review has the detail. Kraken offers PEPE/EUR under its Irish licence, and Bitpanda sells PEPE in euro as a broker with a premium of up to 2.49% in the price; see our Bitpanda review.

Two familiar names come with caveats. Revolut’s Spanish PEPE/EUR page says you can buy Pepe in the app, but we could not open it directly to verify. Coinbase is MiCA-licensed in Luxembourg and passported to Spain, yet its exchange API lists PEPE only against USD, and we could not confirm a euro route in the retail app. For a wider view of venues, see the PEPE exchanges guide.

Buying crypto with Bizum, SEPA or a card

If you live in Spain you probably split restaurant bills with Bizum. It had 30.6 million users at the end of 2025, and 32.5 million were cited in October 2026 around its tenth birthday. So “buy crypto with Bizum” is a natural thing to search for. The honest answer: we could not confirm Bizum as a deposit method at any PEPE venue we checked, Bit2Me included. Until a platform confirms it on its own fee page, don’t plan around it.

In practice Spanish exchanges run on SEPA transfers and cards. SEPA from a Spanish bank account is the cheap route (Bit2Me is reported to charge nothing for it), while cards are quicker but cost more. If a stranger offers to sell you PEPE in return for a Bizum payment to their personal phone number, that is a peer-to-peer deal with no protection at all, and a common scam pattern.

Step by step: buy Pepe coin in Spain

These steps assume a regulated platform and a clean record for your declaración de la renta. For the full walkthrough, with card and wallet options, read our guide to buying PEPE.

  1. Choose a MiCA-authorised platform

Bit2Me if you want a Spanish, CNMV-licensed exchange; Bitvavo, Kraken or Bitpanda if you prefer a passported EU name.

  2. Verify with your DNI or NIE

KYC is mandatory. Spanish platforms will also ask for your tax residence, because they report to the AEAT.

  3. Send euro by SEPA

A SEPA transfer from your Spanish bank is free on Bit2Me. A card is faster but costs more.

  4. Buy PEPE on the euro market

Confirm it is the Ethereum PEPE token, then place a market or limit order.

  5. Keep your records

Download the yearly statement. You will need purchase costs for FIFO, and the 31 December balance if you hold abroad.

Once you own PEPE, decide whether to leave it on the exchange or move it to a self-custody PEPE wallet. That choice has a tax side in Spain too, which brings us to Hacienda.

Crypto tax in Spain: IRPF, Modelo 721 and DAC8

Hacienda treats gains from selling PEPE, or swapping it for another coin, as part of the savings base (base del ahorro) of your IRPF. There is no relief for holding a long time, and your cost basis is worked out first in, first out (FIFO). Staking rewards count as capital income.

€50,000Foreign crypto balance that triggers Modelo 721On 31 December
30 Jun 2026End of the Renta 2025 campaignOpened 8 Apr 2026 (AEAT)

The 2026 bands are 19% up to €6,000, 21% from €6,000 to €50,000, 23% from €50,000 to €200,000, 27% from €200,000 to €300,000 and 30% above €300,000. A worked example: if your only savings income in the year is an €8,000 gain on PEPE, the first €6,000 is taxed at 19% (€1,140) and the remaining €2,000 at 21% (€420), roughly €1,560 in total. Losses can matter too, so talk to a gestor before you file. None of this is tax advice.

Modelo 721 is an information return, not a tax. You file it between 1 January and 31 March if the crypto you hold with providers outside Spain was worth more than €50,000 on 31 December. PEPE on Bitvavo or Kraken counts as held abroad; PEPE on Bit2Me is reported by the platform through models 172 and 173. Then comes DAC8: on 9 March 2026 the AEAT published a draft order for public consultation that adds a new model 042 (an operator register), a revised 172, a new 175, and updates the 721 to cover “criptoactivos”. We could not confirm that the final order has been adopted, but the direction is clear: more automatic reporting of your crypto to the AEAT.

CEX.IO and Spain: a Madrid company that can’t sign you up

This is a genuinely odd local detail. CEX.IO, an exchange operating since 2013, runs its European business through CEX.IO Europe, S.L., registered on Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid. That entity has applied to the CNMV for MiCA authorisation, and on 13 October 2026 CEX.IO’s own legal page said the application “remains under review”. It was not in the ESMA register.

Until a licence arrives, CEX.IO does not onboard new EU or EEA users, Spain included, and existing EU accounts are limited to withdrawals and account management. Its PEPE markets are USD, USDT and USDC only, with no euro pair. The buttons on this page lead to CEX.IO, so please read them with that in mind: if you live in Spain, the licensed venues in the table above are your practical routes.

Local tips for Spanish PEPE buyers

Keep a FIFO log from day one. Because there is no long-term relief, every sale or swap needs a cost. Exchanges export histories, but if you use two or three venues, a single spreadsheet saves pain at renta time.

Watch the €50,000 line on 31 December. A meme-coin rally can push a foreign-held balance over the Modelo 721 threshold without you buying anything. Check your balance at year end.

Know your frog. The real PEPE is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum whose contract ends in 2311933. Our guides to copycat Pepe tokens and PEPE’s risks show what to avoid.

Our take

Spain gives PEPE buyers a licensed local option in Bit2Me, solid EU alternatives in Bitvavo and Kraken, and a tax regime that is clear but has no long-term discount. Bizum is everywhere in daily life but not, as far as we can verify, at the exchange door. Chainalysis did not place Spain in its 2025 top 20 for crypto adoption, so expect liquidity on the big EU platforms rather than local ones.

Crossing borders? Compare buying PEPE in Germany, with its one-year tax-free holding rule, and buying PEPE in the Netherlands, where Box 3 taxes holdings instead of gains. Every country we cover is on the country hub.

Questions people ask

Where can I buy Pepe coin in Spain?+

On a platform authorised under MiCA. Bit2Me, which holds a CNMV licence from 31 Oct 2025, has a PEPE/EUR market. Bitvavo, Kraken and Bitpanda also offer PEPE against the euro under licences passported to Spain, and Revolut advertises PEPE/EUR in its app.

Can I buy crypto with Bizum?+

We could not confirm it for PEPE. Bizum is Spain’s dominant mobile payment app, but none of the PEPE venues we checked listed it as a deposit method on 13 Oct 2026, Bit2Me included. Spanish exchanges mainly take SEPA transfers and cards.

How much tax do I pay on PEPE gains in Spain?+

Gains go into the IRPF savings base at 19% up to €6,000, 21% from €6,000 to €50,000, 23% to €200,000, 27% to €300,000 and 30% above that. There is no holding-period relief, and costs are matched first in, first out. This is general information, not tax advice.

Do I need to file Modelo 721 for my PEPE?+

Only if the crypto you hold with providers abroad is worth more than €50,000 on 31 December. It is an information return filed between 1 January and 31 March. PEPE held on a Spanish platform such as Bit2Me is reported by the platform itself through models 172 and 173.

Is Coinbase a good way to buy PEPE in Spain?+

Coinbase is MiCA-authorised in Luxembourg and passported to Spain, but its exchange API lists PEPE only against USD. We could not confirm whether the retail app sells PEPE for euro, so check inside the app before funding it.

Can I sign up to CEX.IO from Spain?+

No. Even though CEX.IO’s EU entity is based in Madrid, it does not onboard new EU or EEA users while its MiCA application with the CNMV is pending. Existing accounts are limited to withdrawals.
