Is pepe coin listed on Coinbase? The short answer
Yes. Coinbase lists PEPE, the Ethereum meme token, on a PEPE-USD market. On 13 October 2026 Coinbase Exchange’s public API showed the product as “online” with trading enabled and a minimum market order of $1. Trading began on or after 11:30 AM ET on 13 November 2024, according to press coverage quoting Coinbase’s own announcement. The listing, alongside Robinhood’s the same month, came a few weeks before PEPE’s all-time high on 9 December 2024.
We score Coinbase 7.6 out of 10. It is the most recognisable crypto brand in the US, a listed company that files audited accounts with the SEC, and it holds a New York BitLicense plus a full MiCA licence in Luxembourg. Against that: its fees are high for small accounts, and in May 2025 it disclosed a serious insider data breach. One more honest caveat up front: we could not confirm that PEPE is available in every US state, because Coinbase’s help centre blocked our checks.
If you are comparing US options more broadly, our guide to buying PEPE in the USA covers state rules and IRS reporting, and our Robinhood review covers the main rival.
Who runs Coinbase, and where it is licensed
The platform is operated by Coinbase, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Coinbase Global, Inc., which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker COIN. The company was founded in 2012, according to its S-1 registration statement on SEC EDGAR. Being public is a real trust signal: quarterly financials, audited annual reports and material-event filings, like the one it made after the 2025 breach, are all on the record.
In the US, the S-1 says Coinbase holds money transmitter licences in the states that require them, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. We could not check the current list because the licences page was blocked, so use NMLS Consumer Access to look up your state. In New York, the Department of Financial Services granted Coinbase a BitLicense and a money transmitter licence in January 2017. In the EU, Coinbase Luxembourg S.A. was authorised under MiCA by the CSSF on 20 June 2025, covering custody, exchange, execution, placing, order transmission and transfers. Some articles say Coinbase’s EU licence is Irish; the ESMA register says Luxembourg.
European readers should note one detail: Coinbase Exchange’s API showed PEPE against USD only, with no PEPE-EUR market, on 13 October 2026. Whether the retail app lets you buy PEPE directly with euro is unverified. Euro-first buyers have cheaper options in our Bitvavo review.
How we scored Coinbase for PEPE buyers
We use six weighted criteria on every review: licensing 20%, PEPE market quality 15%, costs 25%, withdrawals 15%, security 15% and app 10%. Coinbase scores high where size helps and lower where size has not stopped problems.
Licensing gets a 9 for the BitLicense, broad state coverage per the S-1 and a MiCA licence; it is not a 10 only because we could not verify the current state list. The PEPE market scores 8.5: a deep order book and a $1 minimum, minus a point and a half for USD only and unconfirmed state coverage. Costs get a 6, the weakest area, explained below. Withdrawals score 7.5: you pay the Ethereum network fee rather than a flat markup, but the exact amount is only shown when you send. Security drops to 6.5 because of the 2025 breach. The app keeps a 9, backed by a 4.7 rating from 1,797,805 US iOS reviews.
Coinbase fees for PEPE
Coinbase has two price lists. The simple buy screen in the app charges a spread plus a fee calculated at order time, and there is no public table for it, so the number on your confirmation screen is the one that counts. Coinbase Advanced uses maker-taker fees. Press coverage citing Coinbase’s blog says that from 16 September 2026 the US entry tier pays 0.50% maker and 0.90% taker, while EU and UK users pay 0.25% and 0.50%. We could not verify that on coinbase.com directly, so treat the figures as reported, not confirmed.
| Item | Cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Simple buy or sell (app) | Spread + fee | Shown before you confirm; no public table |
| Advanced, US entry tier | 0.50% / 0.90% | Maker / taker, from 16 Sep 2026 |
| Advanced, EU and UK entry tier | 0.25% / 0.50% | Maker / taker, from 16 Sep 2026 |
| Minimum PEPE-USD order | $1 | Market order, Coinbase Exchange |
| PEPE deposit | No Coinbase fee found | Ethereum, 14 confirmations |
| PEPE withdrawal | Ethereum network fee | Estimated at send time |
In practice, a $300 PEPE market order on Advanced at 0.90% costs $2.70, before you count the spread. That is several times Bitvavo’s 0.25% for European users and well above Robinhood’s commission-free default routing, although Robinhood also earns through the spread. Funding options such as bank transfer and debit card exist, but we could not verify current funding fees. If you want to see how fees eat into a small position, try our PEPE calculator.
How to buy PEPE on Coinbase, step by step
Coinbase requires full identity verification. Once that is done, buying takes a minute.
Create and verify your account
Sign up at coinbase.com or in the app and complete KYC with a government ID.
Add a payment method
Link a bank account or card. Check the fee on screen; it varies by method.
Search for PEPE
Make sure the asset is Pepe (PEPE) on Ethereum. Searches for “pepecoin” can surface lookalikes.
Choose simple buy or Advanced
Simple buy is easiest. Advanced gives limit orders and, often, lower all-in costs on larger orders.
Confirm and decide on custody
Keep PEPE on Coinbase or withdraw to your own Ethereum wallet.
Not sure whether “pepecoin” and PEPE are the same thing? They are not; our PEPE vs Pepecoin page explains the difference. For a platform-neutral walkthrough, see how to buy PEPE.
Withdrawing PEPE from Coinbase: network and fee
Coinbase supports PEPE on Ethereum only, according to its currency API. Deposits need 14 confirmations. When you withdraw, Coinbase charges the Ethereum network fee, estimated at the moment you send, so the cost moves with gas prices. We could not verify a typical figure, so check the amount on the final screen.
Security and the May 2025 customer-data breach
Coinbase’s biggest recent incident was not a hack of funds but an insider leak. In May 2025 it disclosed that criminals had bribed overseas customer-support agents to copy data on under 1% of monthly transacting users: names, addresses, masked Social Security and bank details, and ID images. The attackers demanded $20 million; Coinbase refused to pay. Its 8-K filing of 15 May 2025 estimated the cost at $180 million to $400 million. Coinbase said no passwords, private keys or funds were accessed.
The practical risk for customers was follow-up phishing: scammers who know your name and address can sound very convincing. No legitimate exchange asks you to move funds to a “safe wallet”. On proof of reserves, we found no Merkle-tree attestation, though as a public company Coinbase publishes audited financials; insurance details are unverified. For wider context, read is PEPE safe.
Outside the US and the EU?CEX.IO says PEPE is not available to US-based users and is closed to new EU sign-ups. Check your country first.

Coinbase alternatives and the CEX.IO comparison
In the US, Robinhood is the main alternative: no commission on its default routing, PEPE deposits and withdrawals in every state, and a coin table that shows no New York restriction for PEPE. Kraken, Gemini and Binance.US also list PEPE against the dollar, and our PEPE exchange comparison puts them side by side. In Europe, an order-book exchange like Bitvavo or a broker like Bitpanda will usually suit euro buyers better.
As for CEX.IO, which this site’s buy buttons link to: its buy-PEPE page says PEPE is “not available for U.S.-based users”, so it is not an alternative for Americans, even though its US entity is NMLS-registered (#1804170) and lists licences in 38 states plus DC. It has also stopped taking new EU and EEA users under MiCA. Where it does operate, it offers PEPE against USD, USDT and USDC.
